El Balcon to Close

Shrimp Veracruz style at El Balcon Restaurant in San Felipe, BC, Mexico

Longtime meeting spot for Las Hermanas del Desierto–El Balcon–will be closing at the end of this month. For many years, Chef Marcelino has worked his culinary magic here in San Felipe to bring us unusually beautiful and delicious traditional Mexican dishes using simple, locally grown ingredients.

Marcelino has decided to move his restaurant to San Quintin on the Pacific side of the Baja. He says his new location is a lovely spot overlooking the bay,and, he invites all of us to stop in to visit him should we travel down the Baja. San Felipe’s loss will be San Quintin’s gain. We wish him well in his new endeavor.

Note: El Balcon will be the meeting place for the first Hermanas luncheon get-together for the 2013-2014 fall/winter season. Plan now to meet up on Monday, November 25th at 12:30 p.m. We will order off of the menu and remember to BYOB/BYOW if you want something other than coke, tea, or lemonade to drink. As always, it is nice to be able to give him a heads up on a head count. Leave a comment at the end of this post if you plan to attend. Or, email, bajasisters@gmail.com and put: “El Balcon YES” in the subject line. Or, if all of this is just too much, just pick up the phone and dial: 686-573-8996 (Mex), or, 970-988-2929 (U.S.) to indicate your RSVP.

  1. Unfortunately, Susan and I are still up in the northwest at my sisters as i continue my chemo treatment for the colon cancer they found in July. The good news is this is number 8 of 12 scheduled treatments, and we hope to still head south in February or March, depending on the prognosis. Sad news about El Balcon, but glad you can meet there once more before he leaves. We miss you all, and hope to see you soon.
    Hasta pronto,

    • Alice,
      So very sorry you won’t be joining us next week. We will miss you gals! We will make sure we don’t eat all the shrimp in the Sea before you get down here! We would say we would practice our pickel ball diligently…but, without your expert advice, we know for sure we don’t have a clue how to keep score…much less all of the rules! 🙂
      We send good,healing energy and best wishes to you during your last two treatments. We will be thinking of you and looking forward to your return to our serene desert by the Sea and the mountains. Desert hugs to you both,
      Linda & Lisbeth

  2. lets hope he stays, he said he would give 6 more months if business picked up;
