Snarlin’ Cholla Draws Big Crowd
The Snarlin’ Cholla Party, put on by Belinda Eastman, George Jackson, and Sandy and Denny Flannigan, raises funds to cover the costs of running an off-road vehicle in the SCORE Baja 250 race. The Snarlin’ Cholla Racing Club–in addition to being a local club– is one of the few remaining clubs that continues to drive in the amateur division. Each year, the Flannigans share their beautiful space overlooking the Sea of Cortez in Playa de Oro to host this event.
This year, the turn out was HUGE! Nacho was back serving his “famous” hamburgers and fries, while Denny and the Sons of Beach entertained us with tunes. Danna’s homemade brewski was featured and served up as this year’s special pick beer. Nice job, Danna!
The weather was perfect, not too hot, not too cool. And, there was even some shade provided. There were a few snags in the amount of food available, but, all in all, not bad considering no one ever has any idea how many people are going to show up. And, seating was at a premium. But, other than that, people seemed to be having a great time.
The Race is this Saturday. They will be running the course clockwise this year, so, be aware that arrival times will be different and don’t get yourself standing backwards to the traffic! Snarlin’ Cholla’s race number is 1501 this year. Their start time is 11:40 a.m. If you want to catch the car at Morelia Junction, be there between noon and 12:30. If you want to try to catch them at the corner of Zoo Road and Power Line Road, be there around 5 p.m. Assuming all goes well, if you want to catch them at the finish line, be down at Los Arcos around 6 p.m. If you have never seen the finish for the Baja 250, you might want to put it on your list of things to do. It’s quite….eh…entertaining. Go team Snarlin’ Cholla!
