Just a quick reminder that Tuesday, February 14 is the annual Las Hermanas Valentine’s Day Brunch. Start time is 9:30 a.m. Same place as always: Crones’ Cove, EDR, Los Viajeros Norte, #31-13 off of Rd 23. Bring yourselves and your appetite. Sharron will be tending the Bloody Baja Bar. If that’s not your cup of tea…bring your own tea. Get in touch with one of the gals from LVS or LVN if you have any questions.
This year we will be selling RAFFLE TICKETS to help support the new HOSPITAL that is underway in LOS ARCOS area. Tickets are $5 or 100p each. We hope that everyone will plan on purchasing at least one ticket for the cause. Prizes are HUGELY terrific. Probably the best prizes on the Baja. Many, many people will tell you that they are.
You will be so happy if you win one off these prizes:
A gas stove (perfect for a solar casita),
A low-energy electric refrigerator (perfect for a solar casita),
A low-energy television set (perfect for a solar casita).
😉 Please help the women of the Los Arcos area by supporting this cause.
Set your sites on Tuesday, February 14! The sisters of LVS and LVN will, once again, bring you a morning of good food and camaraderie to celebrate V-Day! Start time is 9:30 a.m. Same place as always: Crones’ Cove, EDR, Los Viajeros Norte, #31-13 off of Rd 23. Bring yourselves and your appetite. Lynda and Sharron will host the “Bloody Baja” table, so, if that’s not your cup of tea…bring your own tea. Get in touch with one of the gals from LVS or LVN if you have any questions.
PS Some gals have indicated that they want to contribute something to the feast. If you have something special you would like to prepare, great! But, if not, no worries! Just bring yourself!
Donations– This year we will be taking donations to go toward the San Felipe International Hospital. Local sources report that six women from the Los Arcos area died in childbirth last year because of insufficient local medical care.
Mark Your Calendars for TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 14!
This year’s Las Hermanas del Desierto Valentine’s Day Brunch was well attended by some 25 women from the San Felipe area. The weather was perfect for an outdoor event: periods of overcast turning to full sunshine and temps in the mid 70’s. There were a few women friends who couldn’t make it this year—you know who you are, and, you were missed!
LVS’s Sharron and Lynda set up the bar and served their famous Canadian-style “bloody Caesars.” MUCHAS GRACIAS, gals!
The brunch spread included pancakes, bacon, corn bread, fruit salad, Meg’s famous quiche, apple-walnut bread, and Lisbeth’s heart-stopping oven baked French toast. Big thank you to all the gals from LVS an LVN (and guests) for the great brunch: Liz, Kathy, Carol, Jayna, Meg, Lisbeth, Donna, Karen, and Pamelid. It is doubtful that anyone went away from the table hungry. Good job North and South LV-EDR neighborhoods!
This year’s brunch also marked the initiation of Lisbeth and Linda’s new screen room. Great shade and a comfortable place to escape the flies!
Susan and Alice set up their “No-Bad-Days” T-shirt concession for all of us to peruse before brunch. Great bargain basement prices, I might add! Most of the proceeds will go to help the San Felipe women’s rowing team and V.I.V.A., the SF dog rescue/spay/neuter program.
Once again, our community V-day brunch was a wonderful chance to get together, relax, and catch-up as the 2014-2015 winter season begins its downward swing.
Thanks everyone, for making it so special!
Just a reminder that this year’s Valentine’s Day Brunch, hosted by LVN and LVS, will be held Saturday, February 14th. As usual it will take place at EDR in Los Viajeros Norte on road 23. Our friendly, expert neighborhood bar tenders hope to be back in time to add a little salsa to the event. Please bring your own shots of coffee. Water is available. Please spread the word to new (and old) lesbians in the area. They are all welcome.
Because the Paella Festival is being held this year on V-day, we have decided to start a little earlier this year. So make sure you change the time on your calendar from the usual 10 a.m. start time to 9:00 a.m. We’d appreciate everyone getting that change out to our community, too.
This is a tradition that dates back at least a decade. It originated in LVS hosted by Jan and Carol. It has only recently become an LVS & LVN hosted event.
Valentine’s Day Brunch
Saturday, February 14
EDR — LVN — RD 23
The LVS and LVN neighborhoods will host the annual Las Hermanas del Desierto Valentine’s Day Brunch again at the home of the Wandercrones (AKA Studio 31-13). In light of how many knees and hips have been replaced this past year (no doubt as a result of last year’s flash mobbing), any and all “swag-swagging” requirements will be tossed aside. Please join us on Friday, February 14, to celebrate Valentine’s Day and to recognize One Billion Rising at 10 a.m. Brunch will feature the usual variety of heart-stopping things. Bloody Caesars and Tequila Sunrises will also be flowing. Should you wish anything else to drink, BYOB. An RSVP to email@example.com would be appreciated. Or, call, 686-573-8996. See you then!
The Los Viajeros North/South Valentine’s Day Brunch was very well attended this year. At least twenty women dined on a brunch of fruits, pancakes, eggs, bacon and Lisbeth’s signature french toast: “Baja Baked Bread.” Kip kept us topped off with Bloody Ceasars and Mimosas.
The annual event dovetailed with Eve Ensler’s One Billion Rising event. The group started by sharing her poem. Then, individuals shared personal reflections on violence again women. There is interest in doing a flash dance in conjunction with an art piece being created by Desert Mothers and involving other women of the greater San Felipe area. The first meeting to introduce the Breaking the Chain dance steps will be held at Linda and Lisbeth’s on Thursday, February 21, at 11 a.m. Please come and bring your dancing shoes!
On Thursday, February 14, 2013 Las Hermanas del Desierto will hold its second annual Valentine’s Day breakfast.
According to United Nations’ statistics, one billion women on the planet are raped or beaten in their lifetimes. In an effort to bring global attention to this incredible crime against half of humanity, writer/activist Eve Ensler and her global organization V-Day: Until the Violence Stops, created One Billion Rising. On this day, one billion women and men who love women will rise up to dance, sing, chant, and flash mob, to say “enough is enough!” The international group is asking that people all over the globe rise up and pledge to do one thing in the next year to help end violence against women. V stands for Vagina, Victory over Violence, and Valentine.
“The horrible rape in India when a girl on a bus was pulled off, gang raped, brutalized and killed has received world-wide attention and helped raise the level of support for such an ambitious event. Honor killings and acid attacks against girls who have been rape, genital mutilation, sex trafficking—these are the horrors we read about happening in other countries and the perpetrators mostly go unpunished. One out of every three women and girls in the U.S. are victims of sexual abuse. If we were to end violence and women were free to thrive, rather than survive, it would change everything.” –onebillionrising.org
Throughout the world, in over 190 countries, thousands of organizations are planning to rise. From Paris to Capetown, Peru to LA, nuns, labor unions, teachers, students, individual citizens are rising in protest.
This is the first time in history that such an event has happened on a global scale. Here, in San Felipe, the Desert Sisters will do its part to rise. It has been suggested that as a group we seek to raise funds to assist with combating domestic abuse and rape in our adopted community.
We will discuss organizational details at the monthly luncheon on Monday, February 4th. Please pass the word on to other Sisters in our community who may not be connected to the Internet. Come with ideas.
On February 14, 2012 eighteen sisters got together at Linda and Lisbeth’s place in EDR to celebrate Valentine’s Day with pancakes, french toast, fruit, eggs a la Meg. Sharron and Lynda set up bar and the Bloody Cesars and Margaritas were flowing! Lisbeth topped it all off with Valentine cookies and whoopie pies! Jan and Carol were back in time this year to receive special accolades for having started the Valentine’s tradition–and, for having provided the furniture! Thanks to everyone who came and to the women of LVN and LVS for all their culinary and bar tending skills!
